Paihia, New Zealand

I know nothing about this place except for pretty pictures on brochure and a cool name of the area - bay of islands. In the morning after we stopped by the cool McDonald's for a quick snack and ellie final visit to the playground inside, we took a train and headed to the bus stop in Auckland city centre. The bus terminal is about 15mins away from the train station and is quite easy to find.

The bus ride was about 4 hours, with a brief stop for bathroom and food. The ride was comfortable and has free wifi.

When we arrived it was sunny. It is a beautiful seaside town. It was a short walk to the motel. I intentionally picked a nicer place for this leg because it was Rian's birthday. We are generally happy with the place. I was especially happy with the kitchen. I missed cooking and eating in!

The couple running the place were very friendly. There is a laundry room there and I mahine washed and dried our clothes for the first time in a while and love the warmth and softness from  Don't take anything for granted :) the day was pretty rainy so we stayed in most of the afternoon. We got lucky that there was a Christmas parade in the town so ellie and I walked out to the street to see the parade. It was the superhero theme and was pretty funny. Also Ellie got some candies she was quite happy.

The next day the weather was better. Cloudy at first and slowly turned into  sunny day. We took the ferry to go to Russell, the first, but brief, capital of New Zealand. The town is very small, we learned a bit more the history of Maori and European settlement at a museum and then we head back.

Then we took a walk to the beach. Spent some time on the playground and water and then continued walking to the treaty ground. Unfortunately by the time we got there the treaty ground was already closed. So we walked back and got dinner.

That concludes our stay at paihia. The next morning we packed and took the bus back to Auckland.

Happy birthday daddy!
First meal in since the trip. Nutella toast. Simple but good!!
Playground by the beach. What more can you ask for!
