After quite a few days traveling down from San Diego, we finally arrived at Panama canal. This was the main reason why we picked this cruise. The day before we got a booklet to explain the history and engineering aspect of the canal. We also watched a documentary together. There were 3 sets of locks and a lake between the Pacific and Atlantic entrance. It took a total of 12 hours to get through the canal. The locks are pretty cool, there are 3 trolleys on each side of the ship to pull the ship in and out of the locks.
Dad was super excited and he even wrote a blog on it. He said he didn't know there are locks. He thought it was just a river. The only downside was that dad sprained his ankle that day which limited his mobility for a few days.
I also built a model of the locks with cereal boxes to teach ellie about the locks (which I am quite proud of). Overall I think it was quite educational.
