Veendam cruise

This was the second cruise in our vacation. It goes down from San Diego through Panama canal to Florida and stops at a few central American countries. It was a perfect itinerary for my dad because he likes canal, locks and such kind of engineering infrastructure.

The boat itself is quite small, smaller than star virgo. The room was however quite spacious, although still an inside room and no sun light. Walking out to the outside deck was just a few steps away so it makes up for it. Mom and dad were on the same deck same side in the mid ship. A "balcony" room which pretty much just have a door walk out to the public deck floor with a couple lounge chairs. They don't think the price justify it but I think they quite like the chairs which they can lay down and listen to music and relax all the time.

I like that there is a coffee shop with books and games. I went there to get a latte (hot chocolate for ellie, expresso for rian) almost everyday and sometimes play some board games. Ellie learned sorry and connect 4 there.

This is an old people ship. Almost all old people with only a handful of kids. There was a family from Australia with 2 kids of similar age as ellie. They played together at kids club near the end of the trip. Rian didn't like the idea of dropping off ellie at kids club at first but then later ellie enjoyed that a lot so she went a few times.

Another pretty neat thing was DVD borrowing. We went through quite a few movies. Dinner then movies became a daily life on the ship.

Food was ok. Rian and ellie always stayed up late. Most morning I just grab cereal and other things from the cafe back to the room for breakfast. Then  I will do some homeschooling with ellie and then late lunch mostly at a burger place and then swimming in the evening. Then dinner with my parents, either at the cafe or the restaurant.

We saw sunset with the sun down to the Pacific Ocean quite a few times. Very spectacular I must say!

There were only few ports and the stops were very brief. So a lot of time on the boat. We were not a big fan of cruise but I am happy that my parents, especially my dad, enjoy it.

Selfie :)
The restaurant. Food was not bad.
The lock model I built out of cereal boxes to teach ellie how locks work before the canal day.
"Eyes" from mom for ellie to do art projects. And we made puppets!
Dad enjoys the no sugar desserts very much, especially ice cream!
Lego from Christmas
Hot tubbing
Beautiful sunset
